Council has received $16.8 million in funding from the NSW Government for the construction of stage one of the Northern NSW Inland Port.

The Council driven hub is destined to be the premier manufacturing, industrial and logistics site in Northern NSW and is set to create over 2,000 ongoing jobs.

Mayor Cathy Redding was delighted with the announcement saying, “this funding supports Council’s community driven goal in diversifying the local economy by bringing the Northern NSW Inland Port to life.

“The funding will be used to undertake site earthworks as well as deliver critical infrastructure such as; electricity, water, and communications.

“Council would like to thank the state government for their continued support and interest in this project.”

General Manager Stewart Todd said, “The Council’s vision for its Inland Port today is a reality. Today is a day that will be etched into the history of Narrabri Shire.

“This project is a once in a life time project but not just for Narrabri Shire, but for the entire northern NSW region with the prosperity that will come from attracting new industries and opportunities.

“N2IP had already gained interest from the private industry, largely due to the innovative approach Council are taking to leverage Inland Rail opportunities and our strategic location.

“The announcement that Stage 1 of the Port is now funded, will sharply increase the interest. I expect investment interest to grow four-fold.
